Whole Foods Market is an eco-minded chain with a large assortment of organic groceries, including organic produce with some local choices, housewares, organic shelf-stable, and dry goods, organic beauty and other organic and sustainable products. They also carry organic and grass-fed meats, organic pork, organic chicken and some wild-caught seafood. Most Whole Foods locations sell beer and wine and offer several organic choices. Whole Foods Market does NOT sell products that contain the following artificial ingredients: preservatives, sweeteners, colors, hydrogenated fats, and flavors.
The Takeaway
Whole Foods Market became the first Certified Organic national grocer in the US. That deserves much respect as it’s not an easy undertaking. They also give 5% of their net profits back to the community. They offer an abundance of clean and organic grocery items to be found in every department. However, the Whole Foods deli, bakery, juice bar, coffee bar, salad, and hot bars do not meet the minimum requirements to qualify for a Clean Foodie rating, therefore this review and rating pertain only to the grocery/retail portion for each store. Please note that some organic foods or ingredients are used in the hot bar, salad bar, juice bar, and coffee bar, but this changes daily and varies with each store. Ask for more specifics.
