What’s Clean
The beef served at Fly Away Farm Foods is 100% grass-fed and the shrimp is wild-caught. Most of the produce is grown organically and locally sourced, or certified organic. The grits are non-GMO and the chicken is not organic. Everything is either steamed, baked, or braised and several Gluten-free, keto, and vegan options are available. The menu changes with the seasons depending on availability and local sourcing is a priority, especially from small farms.
What’s Served
The menu is divided into 3 categories: Hot + Satisfying, Fresh + Light, and Breakfast Cravings. Grain and Veggie Bowls, Salads, Soups, and Sandwiches are offered. For children under 10, they will custom-prepare a healthy kid-sized meal for a single flat price.
What I Ordered
I ordered the Hot Keto Veggie Bowl which is carb-free. The dish includes broccoli, green beans, carrots, red peppers, celery, huge spinach leaves, cream peas, a huge slice of fresh tomato, and roasted sweet potatoes. Freshness overload for sure, the bowl was packed with nutrient-dense veggies with hints of a mild rosemary flavor. I would have preferred more spices and a stronger flavor profile, all in all, the dish was a bit blah.
The Vibe
The newly remodeled space is clean and simple. Many table and chair settings are provided indoors in a casual atmosphere.
The Takeaway
What a nice surprise, Fly Away Farm Foods takes food prep and ingredient sourcing seriously. Clean and locally sourced ingredients cooked via the healthiest methods are the priority in order to maximize nutrient intake. Most entrees are in the $7 – $9 range. Dine-in or take out, support local and stop by for a clean meal when in Orange Beach.
