What’s Clean

At True Food Kitchen, the chicken is organically raised without GMO’s and the beef is 100% grass-fed, while the eggs are organic as well. The kale is organic but for the most part, the only remaining produce that is organic is what’s listed on EWG’s Dirty Dozen list. The sourcing of seafood fluctuates, but often it is farm-raised responsibly and not wild-caught, ask for more specifics. Several liquor offerings are organic. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-friendly options are available, in fact, the majority of the starters, salads, bowls, and desserts are VG, VEG, and/or GF. You won’t find any fried foods on the menu, and the recipes are low in sugar and saturated fats.

What’s Served

True Food Kitchen serves New American Cuisine with a healthy twist and a strong veggie presence. The menu changes with the seasons and is consistent from one location to the next. A few popular starters are the Edamame Dumplings, Charred Cauliflower, and Roasted Brussels Sprouts. Bowls include the Teriyaki Quinoa and Korean Noodle Bowl. There’s always a handful of pizzas available with a GF crust option. Entree choices include Lasagna Bolognese, Spaghetti Squash casserole, and a Grass-Fed Burger. You’ll also find cocktails, unique mocktails, teas, and kombucha, as well as beer, wine, and a handful of dessert options.

What I Ordered

We have not yet visited the Phoenix location, therefore this review is a general review of all locations. I’ve chosen two of the better meals that I’ve enjoyed over the years, which is the Tomato and Arugula Pizza on a gluten-free crust, and the Grilled Chicken Avocado Wrap. The pizza crust was one of the best gluten-free pizza crusts that I’ve experienced thus far, but overall, the pizza lacked in the flavor department. Since the crust was so delish, I’m looking forward to trying another, with different toppings. The Grilled Chicken Avocado Wrap was loaded with big cuts of organically raised chicken, dollops of fresh mozzarella, crunchy slices of crisp cucumber, shredded lettuce, and a nice smear of creamy hummus. The lemon oregano vinaigrette was refreshingly light with a nice flavor. Overall a very enjoyable wrap, but a little skimpy with the avocado slices.

The Vibe

Each True Food Kitchen location offers a large open dining area with an industrial-chic feel and lively decor. The lighting is stunning and most locations offer patio dining. The open-air kitchens are always entertaining with table seating and bar seating provided.

The Takeaway

I have sampled many different True Food Kitchen meals at many different locations across the country and I have to say that there is little to no variance in the quality and taste of the food from one location to the next. Caloric intake is listed for each menu offering, which is greatly appreciated. True Food Kitchen does a great job of delivering clean food options in a beautiful atmosphere but I’ve never left thinking the meal was amazing.
