The juices, smoothies, açaí bowls, vegetables, bread, rotisserie chicken, and most of the soups are usually organic. They offer gluten-free options as well. The sandwich meats are not organic but are hormone and antibiotic-free Applegate products. Ask for more specifics, however, they do a decent job of labeling ingredients for all to see.
The small deli serves juice made to order, smoothies, açaí bowls, hot and cold bar options, sandwiches and soups.
What I Ordered
I ordered the Tropical Wave Smoothie, an Acai Bowl, and the Jalapeno Cheddar pressed Sandwich. Let’s begin with the sandwich, which was over the top and the best sandwich I’ve had in quite a while, wow! The local organic bread was thinly sliced and perfectly pressed, then stuffed with sliced chicken, cheddar, green apple, spinach, and house-made vegan dressing. The crunch and sweetness of the green apple was such a refreshing surprise. I opted to add sprouts and pickles which made for a sandwich that I just could not put down. The Acai was blended to order while the fresh organic fruit toppings were sliced to order as well. Again, nothing but goodness here; the Acai Bowl with gluten-free granola was outstanding. The smoothie was good as well, with a taste and texture similar to a Pina Colada, minus the booze.
The deli/juice bar is small and located inside the grocery store. Outdoor seating is provided along the front porch and at the rear of the store. A few seats are available inside as well.
The Deli at Heath’s Natural Foods is currently the only place in New Smyrna Beach that offers organic food of any kind. The deli creations are great tasting and for the most part, clean. The store itself has a great assortment of organic groceries including fresh produce. Stop by and support this valued local grocer and grab an organic smoothie or acai bowl on your way to the surf and sand!
