What’s Served
Healthy vibrant American cuisine is what you’ll find at Cafe Evergreen. The kitchen offers vegan, vegetarian and meat lover’s dishes and everything in between. Breakfast is available on the weekends, which includes Zucchini Potato Pancakes and Portobello Mushroom Omelets. Generally, the lunch and dinner menus consist of small plates, sandwiches, wraps, salads, and entrees. For example, entrees include Tuscan Steak with Potato Gnocchi and Butternut Squash Ravioli. Additionally, they serve juices made to order, smoothies, probiotic and specialty drinks, coffee, beer, wine and cider with many organic and vegan options. Lastly, the Juice & Smoothie bar opens at 9:00am daily.
What I Ordered
From the brunch menu, I ordered the “nontraditional” Cafe Eggs Benedict and a Summer Cooler. Made with water kefir, watermelon, mint, and freshly squeezed lemonade, the Summer Cooler was unbelievably refreshing. Clearly, gluten free eggs Benedict is not an easy find, and the GF Bennys at Cafe Evergreen are off the charts…WOW! The base consisted of moist Manchego Quinoa Cakes on top of Gluten Free English Muffins. Next, the cakes were topped with 2 gorgeous poached pastured eggs drowned in a house made hollandaise sauce made with ghee. I also sampled the special of the day, a Mahi Taco Bowl, which was incredible. Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my favorite Cafe Evergreen dish, the Shrimp with Potato Gnocchi. Light yet creamy, the white wine cream sauce with sauteed garlic and lots of dill creates the perfect dressing for the delicate gnocchi.
The Vibe
Cafe Evergreen has a large dining area, a bar, and outdoor seating in 2 separate areas. Meanwhile, the atmosphere is chill with transitional decor.
The Takeaway
What a find, this amazing restaurant is in the running for our Florida top 10 list of clean eating restaurants! In fact, I might just have to move to Nokomis! Cafe Evergreen is located on US HWY 41 between Sarasota and Ft Meyers which seems like it’s in the middle of nowhere, but don’t let that stop you from making the drive, your palate will thank you.
