At Root Baking Co, the local grains are milled on-site and are used in all of the house baked hearth bread and baked goods. Most ingredients used are local and organically grown, and all bread varieties are vegan. Just about everything is scratch made in house including their yogurt (made with organic milk), bread, pastries, pickled veggies, and soups.
Root Baking Co serves amazing salads, sandwiches, small plates, specialty drinks and of course all of the bakery items on display. Pastries and about 8 different bread varieties are offered on a rotating basis. Pizza is served only on Fridays from 11am – 8pm. Beer and wine are also available.
What I Ordered
I started with the Turmeric Tonic which was refreshingly pungent with just the right amount of salinity and a pleasant flavor. Next was the Apple Butter & Candied Toast, topped with Pickled Ginger on rye. There are no words to describe the unbelievable taste and texture to this toast…induced-literal-moans-from-mouth, just sayin’. The house made pickled ginger made the toast pop with wow. They were fresh out of their Whipped Sorghum Butter, can’t wait to try that next time!
Root Baking Co is tucked away in a corner of the second floor inside Ponce City Market. The restaurant is farmhouse chic, new, clean and inviting. Bar seating is available as well as individual tables and family-style tables.
I can’t tell you enough good things about Root Baking Co. I found them on a whim and a hunch and so glad I did. They take on a level of their own uniqueness and taste, all the while using local and clean ingredients. The food is absolutely amazing and I appreciate their commitment to doing things right. Root Baking Co is a must stop…don’t miss out! Breakfast is served every day except Friday and occasionally they close early on Wednesdays for baking classes.
