What’s Clean
At L’Thai, some of the ingredients are organic including the brown rice, soy sauce which is also GF, eggs, and most of the veggies. The chicken is not organic, nor is the white rice. Most of the seafood is sourced from Asia of which some is farm-raised, ask for more specifics. We were unable to determine if the rice noodles, which are sourced from Thailand are organic, or if the beef is 100% grass-fed. The oil used for sauteing is a non-GMO Rice Bran oil, and a vegetable oil other than canola and corn is used for deep frying. We could not determine if the vegetable oil is non-GMO or not. The menu offers may Gluten-Free and Vegan selections. Several of the beverages are organic including the coffee and a few beer and wine options.
What’s Served
Serving lunch and dinner, L’Thai offers typical Thai fare with a healthier twist than most. Appetizers, soups, salads vegan and animal protein entrees, curries, rice and noodle dishes, and a few dessert options round out the menu.
What I Ordered
On my first visit, I ordered the L’Thai Fried Rice with chicken as the protein choice. The rice had a lightness to it which was welcomed, in other words, it wasn’t drenched in oils like some. On a second visit to the Tucker location, we ordered the Yellow Chicken Curry, Coconut Soup, Spring Roll, and Chicken and Veggies with Glass Noodles. The soup was simple yet very tasty. The spring roll was a little heavy on the dough and skimpy on the interior veggies. Although we ordered the non-spicy yellow chicken curry, our eyes were tearing from the heat. Not sure if this was an oversite or if it actually was the nonspicy version. Otherwise, the spicy curry sauce had a pleasant flavor with large pieces of chopped veggies which we enjoyed with the organic brown rice. The glass noodles and veggies were a little on the soggy side, however, the chicken was nice and tender. Overall an enjoyable dish but certainly not a standout.
The Vibe
Swanky Asian is what comes to mind with a full bar complete with a few TV’s and a dimly lit dining area. The restaurant furnishings and decor seem to be new or relatively recent.
The Takeaway
I have to say, I was a little disappointed in finding so many ingredients that are not organic or clean. My expectations were much higher after reading its website and seeing the USDA Organic and Non-GMO signs on display. However, L’Thai is still cleaner than most Asian or Thai restaurants in the US, and the food is pretty yummy too. The atmosphere is lovely and they do have live entertainment on most weekends. With 3 locations in the Atlanta outskirts, it’s the cleanest Thai food around!
