What’s Clean
Guadalupe Cafe sources most of its ingredients locally of which much of the produce is organically grown and non-GMO. The local beef is 100% grass-fed and the chicken is pasture-raised and supplemented with non-GMO feed. Most of the menu is scratch-made in their kitchen. Vegan options are scattered throughout the menu.
What’s Served
Guadalupe cafe serves a unique combination of southern, Tex-Mex, and tropical-inspired dishes for lunch and dinner. You’ll find everything from fried plantains, to stuffed avocado, to salads, burritos, bowls, a BBQ pork sandwich, and beef or bison burgers. Weekend brunch is also offered with entrees such as Huevos Rancheros, Shrimp & Grits, and pancakes. They also have a kids menu.
What I Ordered
We arrived quite hungry and ordered the Mango Pork Tacos, the Peanut Chicken with Udon Noodles, and the house-made Blueberry Cobbler for dessert. The stir-fried Peanut Chicken dish was beautifully presented with loads of chopped veggies, scallions, and peanuts laden amongst organic udon with moist shredded chicken. I did order the small size but you wouldn’t know it as the large portion size was impressive. Although the dish appeared to have all the right ingredients, I would have liked a bit more flavor in the peanut sauce. Much of the same for the Mango Pork Tacos, stronger spices and flavorings would have been preferred. However, the fried okra over moist coconut rice was spot on, clean and delish!
The Vibe
The atmosphere reminds me of an old downtown neighborhood diner with a rustic feel and nostalgic vibe. An extra-long bar with padded red leather stools and black and white checkered floor add to the intriguing character of the space. Several tables are available indoors as well as outdoors on the front patio and sidewalk.
The Takeaway
Serving the cleanest food in town, Guadalupe Cafe is a Farm to Table restaurant that sources most of its ingredients from local farms and purveyors. Much of the menu is scratch-made in house with local and mostly clean ingredients. The restaurant space is packed with character in every nook and cranny and located in charming downtown Sylva. This clean foodie is looking forward to a visit during weekend brunch and sampling more of the menu.
