What’s Clean
Many of the ingredients used at Hive Cafe are organic and locally sourced. A sampling of organic foods include the smoothies, veggie burger, eggs, house sauces, house oat milk ice cream, sourdough bread, and coffee. The Ahi Tuna is wild-caught and the cheeses are from the milk of grass-fed cows. Hive serves fresh, local, scratch-made vegetarian fare.
What’s Offered
Hive Cafe offers an impressive list of vegetarian and vegan burgers such as the Reuben, Korean Express, Blue Ball & Shroom, and Atomic. Noodle bowls, salads, soups, vegan mac & cheese, and squash fries are also offered. Desserts like the house-made soft serve organic Ice Cream made with oat milk, vegan Whoopie Pies, and vegan cookies and brownies are also available.
What I Ordered
I ordered the Pulled Portabello Sandwich, and I’m so glad I did. This mushroom-based burger was a show stopper and I hear through the grapevine that the quinoa-based burgers are even better. The vegan combo had a texture similar to pulled pork with a medley of caramelized onions, shredded carrots, kale, diced apple, organic mushrooms, and locally made non-GMO seitan. Finished with their amazing house-made thousand island and bbq sauces all between a warm soft sesame seed bun, created a sandwich that was pure decadence from the first bite to last.
The Vibe
Hive Cafe has got to be one of the coolest restaurants I’ve come across. Located in an alleyway in an older industrial type building, there’s a ton of character in this little gem of a hideaway. With concrete floors, overhead garage doors, greenery, and chic fun-colored minimal furnishings, you might not want to leave.
The Takeaway
I was blown away by Hive Cafe, a little vegetarian gem in an alleyway in Kutztown PA. The scratch-made vegetarian food, made with mostly clean ingredients, was superb. Don’t miss this local hangout with a great vibe that will leave even hardcore omnivores drooling for more. Serving simply amazing vegan, vegetarian, and plant-based eats, Hive Cafe is a must-stop-here-now kinda place.
