At Calabar Meat Co much of the local meats are clean including pasture-raised pork that is supplemented with non-GMO organic transitional grains, and 100% naturally raised beef. Most of the produce is locally sourced and grown organically via hydroponic means. The coffee is organic as well as some of the grab & go drinks such as the kombucha. The bread and most of the other foods and ingredients are not organic.
Calabar Meat Co serves sandwiches, burgers, and sides. There’s a kids’ menu and always a special of the day. Don’t forget the craft beer and a few desserts involving ice cream. Fresh meats are also available for sale from the butchery.
What I Ordered
I ordered the Pork Bahn Mi with a Side Salad. The sandwich arrived on a hefty hoagie roll with lots of fresh Veggies, Pickled Julienned Veggies, Cilantro a-plenty, Aioli, and a Char Siu Glaze over thinly sliced pieces of tender Smoked Pork Loin. The mixture of aioli and glaze added a mildly sweet flavor and the pickled veggie combo added the pucker. Fresh jalapenos and sliced cucumbers added a nice crunch factor. All in all, a great tasting Banh Mi. The salad greens were fresh and the light dressing was refreshing and delish.
With a bit of a hidden storefront, upon entering you’ll venture upstairs into an open space with bar and table seating and an open view of the kitchen. A few tables are available on the sidewalk as well. The space boasts an urban farmhouse feel complete with butcher block tables and lots of natural lighting.
