At Roots Cafe, locally grown and raised ingredients are king. The chicken is raised organically and some of the beef is 100% grass-fed, while other selections are grain-finished. Most of the produce is sourced from local farms that grow organically. The majority of everything served is made from scratch. The eggs and breads are not organic.
Farm to Table style breakfast and lunch is served Wednesday-Sunday. The breakfast menu includes traditional Egg dishes, Superfood Hash, Apple Cinnamon French Toast, and a Pork Belly Benedict to name a few. Lunch offerings such as a Grass-Fed Burger, a Seasonal Salad, and Avocado Toast are available. Wine, Cider, Beer, Cocktails, Coffee, Teas, and Sodas round out the beverage menu.
What I Ordered
I arrived for breakfast and it was a tough choice, but ultimately I chose the Sweet Potato Rosti Benedict. A shredded sweet potato pancake served as the base, topped with an avocado salad, perfectly poached eggs, and house-made hollandaise. All in all a fantastic and filling breakfast with no skimping on portion size.
Roots Cafe occupies an older smaller sized building that hugs the sidewalk in the charming downtown area close to the college. A few dining tables are provided indoors while many seating options are available outdoors on the large deck in the back. Deck dining offers bench seating at larger family-sized tables and traditional tables under a triple-tiered pergola. The decor is simple, nothing fancy here. Music is always playing, indy genre were the tunes of choice when I visited. My apologies for the lack of photos, somehow they were deleted during technical difficulties.
You can expect scratch-made Farm to Table comfort food with a healthy twist at Roots Cafe. Local ingredients are transformed into savory breakfast and lunch dishes 5 days per week in West Chester, PA.
