What’s Clean
Just about every ingredient used is local and/or organic except for the flour in the GF bread and GF pizza dough. The beef is 100% grass-fed, the chicken is pastured and supplemented with non-GMO grains, and the produce is either certified organic or organically grown. The local cheese is made from the milk of grass-fed and pastured cows. Just about everything is house-made including their sausages and pepperoni. Swamp Rabbit houses its own bakery where they turn out organic bread varieties and baked goods. The menu offers a few vegan choices as well as several gluten-free options.
What’s Served
The Cafe serves sandwiches, a few breakfast items, smoothies, coffee and espresso, and salads. A few vegan foods are offered on the menu such as Vegan Pogacha. House-made soup is served in the cooler months. Swamp Rabbit Pizza serves Neopolitan style pizza on house-made crust, baked in a wood-fired oven with GF crust as an option as well as vegan cheese. Swamp Rabbit Taps offers wine and local craft beer on tap.
What I Ordered
My son opted for a GF grilled cheese with greens from the cafe, as well as a PBCB smoothie. The GF toast was excellent with a nice crunch and soft where it’s expected to be, while the spinach with jack & cheddar cheeses melded for a nice mild flavor with no skimping in portion size. The smoothie was on the chocolatey side and enjoyable, but not gourmet caliber. Lastly, we sampled the Grazing Goat Sandwich on house-made Stecca bread. The bread was divine as was the entire sandwich. Turkey slices topped with a spread made with just about every veggie on hand created a very filling and lip-smacking lunch.
The Vibe
Rustic vibes in a barn-like setting with lots of character. Swamp Rabbit Cafe serves as a major bicycle stop along the Swamp Rabbit Bike Trail. The cafe itself provides simplistic decor and furnishings inside, however, outdoor seating at picnic tables is plentiful. In addition to the cafe, you’ll find Swamp Rabbit Pizza, Swamp Rabbit Taps, the Swamp Rabbit grocery store, and a bike shop.
The Takeaway
Just wow! What a great find in Greenville SC, rustic charm and clean food at very reasonable prices. If the Cafe menu does not appeal to you, explore Swamp Rabbit Pizza located in the courtyard or Swamp Rabbit Taps for some locally-sourced adult beverages.
