What’s Clean
Most of the produce at Eden East is organically grown on their own farm or obtained from another local farm that practices organic growing methods. The grits are organic as well. The pork is local and raised in a clean manner.
What’s Served
The menu changes weekly at Eden East and reflects what is harvested that week. The Farm to Bowl entree is a popular option. You choose a base of either greens, grits, or potato hash, then 1 of 3 veggie choices, followed by a protein, and lastly, a sauce. Tacos are on the menu as well. Everything is scratch-made. Pre-fixed 5 course meals are served Fridays & Saturdays, however, reservations are required. In addition, Eden East is a BYOB facility…yes, bring your own beer, wine, or liquor and enjoy!
What I Ordered
For our review, we ordered a Farm to Bowl with potato hash, Brussels sprouts, and Pork Belly drizzled with a house-made Jalapeño Aioli. I also ordered a side of grits. Oh my! The photos hardly do it justice…this dish was AMAZING! This was easily one of the top 3 meals I had in all of Austin. The flavors were heavenly, from the tiny cubed potatoes to the sautéed Brussels sprouts and crispy pork belly…and the sauce…wow, quite a wonderful experience. The combination of ingredients melded together perfectly, including the al-dente veggies.
The Vibe
It was rainy and 37 degrees during my visit but the covered eating area, which is located directly on the farm, was welcoming and serene. The gas heaters were fired up which made it nice and toasty. It’s a rustic space with hay serving as flooring and picnic tables as the dining space, but it’s somehow perfect. There are even a few chandeliers hanging from the cross beams.
The Takeaway
Eden East was the biggest surprise of my Austin trip. Gourmet level Farm to Table cuisine is what you’ll find at this rustic, tey charming place. Eden East is a great choice, especially if you want to venture off the beaten path and try something different, as far as ambiance goes. And the food…I can’t brag on them enough…sooo yummy! Check out the farm store and its extraordinary selection of fresh-picked veggies, meats, pecans, and fruits. The Farmstand at Eden East is only open Wednesday & Saturday 9am-1pm. And don’t forget to make a reservation if you want to experience their amazing pre-fixed 5-course meals on Friday & Saturday nights.
