What’s Clean
Most of the produce at the flagship Picnik location is organically grown and local, depending on the season. The chicken is organic and pastured, the beef is 100% grass-fed and pasture-raised, and the seafood is wild-caught. The menu is 100% gluten, corn, peanut, and soy-free. A special diet menu is also available which is free from maple, honey, grains, dairy, soy, legumes, corn, and peanuts…whew! And that’s in addition to the first menu. Avocado oil is their cooking oil of choice. They also use coconut oil and local Texas olive oil. Picnik….you Rock! Many vegan and vegetarian options are offered as well.
What’s Served
In addition to breakfast items that are served all day, Picnik offers everything from curry to tacos to crispy chicken to salad and soup. You’ll also find a full bar serving cocktails, beer, wine, and amazing butter and MTC oil coffee with their signature dairy-free creamer.
What I Ordered
We started off with a Pitaya Margherita…a first for the both of us, and waiting all our lives for this moment was worth the wait! Creamy Queso was our appetizer of choice, and wow! Served with house-made almond flour chips…I did officially die and go to heaven. The super creamy queso was made with cashew creme and absolutely divine! For our entree, we chose the Crispy Chicken Thighs which truly were crispy…breading not needed. Tender sautéed Broccoli and Creamy Mashed Potatoes arrived as the sides. The meal was delectable; a clean twist on a traditional plate.
The Vibe
A nice open chic space with a modern vibe, but very relaxed atmosphere.
The Takeaway
Holy Wow! I’d eat here every day if I were local. A must stop while in Austin, don’t miss out! Everything is scratch-made, mostly clean and over the top in taste. My experience at Picnik will be remembered always; every morsel and sip was exceptional.
